The Gift of Time: How One Teacher's Legacy Inspired The Luxx Express to Bring Indianapolis Families Together

For 45 years, she taught third grade. But what she gave her community reached far beyond her own classroom.

Every year, she brought students of all ages from her school and surrounding schools, along with their families, on a trip to Disney World by motorcoach, giving children and parents the chance to travel together and experience something outside their everyday surroundings. Decades later, her granddaughter has built a business on that same idea.

The Luxx Express, an Indianapolis-based travel company, creates thoughtfully planned day trips and weekend getaways designed to bring people together. Guests travel by luxury motorcoach to destinations across the Midwest and beyond, with the planning, driving and parking handled for them.

At the heart of the company is a simple belief: some of the greatest gifts people can give the ones they love are their time, their presence and shared memories.

"Life moves fast, and the time we have with the people we love is something we can never get back," said a spokesperson for The Luxx Express. "Our founder's grandmother understood that. The trips were wonderful, but what those students and families carried home were the memories and the people they shared them with. That's exactly what we want every guest to leave with."

That philosophy shapes how the company measures success. Rather than focusing on how many seats are filled, The Luxx Express aims for relationships strengthened and memories carried home. The company describes its ideal motorcoach as one filled with families laughing, grandparents and grandchildren bonding, couples reconnecting and strangers becoming friends.

Each trip includes a planned itinerary and a Guest Experience Specialist on board, along with refreshments, games, giveaways and special touches throughout the journey. Destinations on the company's schedule include Nashville, Chicago, the Smoky Mountains, Mackinac Island, Put-in-Bay and Wisconsin Dells.

"The gift of time is the one we keep coming back to," the spokesperson said. "When you take away the driving, the parking and the planning, people finally get to be present with each other. A day away together can do more for a family than almost anything you could buy."

The company's story was recently featured in Woman's Week, which highlighted its mission of turning travel into a way to bring families and communities closer together.
